Data Safety

Last updated 3 October 2026

Google Play asks every developer to declare what their app collects and shares. These are the answers filed for the Skimp Android app, with the reasoning behind each. The short version: no data collected, no data shared.

1. What we declared

Does the app collect any user data?
No.
Does the app share any user data with third parties?
No.
Is data encrypted in transit?
Not applicable. Nothing is transmitted.
Is data used for advertising or tracking?
No.
Third-party SDKs that collect data?
None.
Does the app have accounts?
No.
Can you delete your data?
Yes, on your device, at any time.

2. Why the answer is “no”

Google Play counts data as collected when an app sends it off your device, and as shared when it is passed to a third party. Data that an app only processes on the device is neither.

The released app does not request the Android INTERNET permission, so the operating system prevents it from making any network connection. It has no server, no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising libraries. There is nowhere for your data to go.

3. What the app handles on your device

The app does work with sensitive information. All of it stays in storage that Android keeps private to the app.

SMS messages
Read on the device to find bank alerts. Anything that is not a bank transaction alert is discarded before it is stored. Message text is deleted once you confirm or dismiss the item, or, for a message recorded automatically, the next time the app checks your messages.
Financial info
Transactions, accounts, budgets, goals and lending records you add or that are read from bank alerts. Kept in the app's private storage.
App activity
Your review decisions, kept as counts against a message pattern so similar alerts are classified better.
Files you export
Encrypted backups, CSV and PDF reports. Created only when you ask, and sent only where you choose through Android's share sheet.

One-time passcodes are erased from a message the moment it enters the app, before anything is parsed or written to disk.

The app does not access any of the following:

  • Location
  • Contacts
  • Call logs
  • Photos and videos
  • Audio
  • Calendar
  • Health and fitness
  • Name, email address or phone number
  • Device or advertising identifiers
  • Web browsing history

4. Security practices

  • App data is held in app-private storage, isolated from other apps by Android.
  • Backups you export are encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a passphrase only you know.
  • SMS access is read-only. The app cannot send, edit or delete a message.
  • SMS access is optional. Every other feature works with manual entry.

5. Deleting your data

Everything is on your device, so deletion is in your hands:

  • Individual records can be deleted inside the app.
  • Everything at once: Android Settings, Apps, Skimp, Storage, Clear storage. Uninstalling the app does the same.
  • SMS access can be withdrawn in Android Settings, Apps, Skimp, Permissions.

We cannot delete your app data for you, because we never have it. There is no account to close.

6. The websites are separate

This declaration covers the Android app. This website stores an email address if you join the waitlist, and the support portal stores what you write in a ticket. Both are described in the privacy policy, and you can ask for either to be deleted at support.skimp.rabugotra.com.
