Pick one. This is the wording you get in the app.

Automatic categorisation: Teach it twice. It files the third.

Skimp categorises expenses automatically by learning where you put them. From your own choices, on your phone.

  • Once is a suggestion. The category you picked is pre-selected next time.
  • Twice is a habit. The next payment is filed for you, and marked as such.
  • It generalises. Put two cafes under your own Coffee category and a new cafe goes there too.
  • You can undo it. See everything it learned. Forget one merchant, or all of them.

A review queue that learns: Answer three times. It stops asking.

Bank messages Skimp is unsure about wait in Review for a yes or a no. It learns from every answer.

  • It learns the pattern. Next month's alert has a different amount and date, and still matches.
  • Three yeses: that kind of message posts itself, even from a bank that is not on the supported list.
  • Three noes: it stops showing up.
  • Swipe mode. Left to dismiss, right to file.
  • Reversible. A list shows what it learned, with a button that forgets it.

Subscription radar: It finds the subscription you forgot about

Skimp's subscription radar is a subscription tracker that works from your bank SMS. It spots charges that repeat every month and totals what they cost you.

  • What counts. The same merchant charging a similar amount about once a month, two months running.
  • One total. What your subscriptions cost per month, biggest first.
  • Every charge, dated. One that is off its usual amount is flagged, so a price rise shows.
  • In Recurring too. Active ones are tagged Auto-detected and count toward your monthly commitment.

CSV and PDF reports: A report you can hand to someone

Skimp exports your transactions as a CSV spreadsheet or a PDF report, free. The file is written on your phone and handed to Android's share sheet: the app has no internet permission.

  • Two formats. Spreadsheet (CSV) or Report (PDF).
  • Six ranges. This week, last week, this month, last month, last 3 months, this year.
  • The PDF: spent, received and net, a category breakdown with shares, then every transaction.
  • The CSV: one row per transaction, ready for Excel or Google Sheets.

  • Five filters. Dates, type, categories, merchant or note text, tag.

The details nobody asked for

Small behaviours, each decided on purpose.

  1. A correction pauses, it does not flip

Re-file something the app filed and it stops auto-filing that merchant until you confirm the new category once more.

  2. A declined offer is not repeated

The offer to move a merchant's earlier transactions is made once.

  3. Silence counts, a little

Leave a learned category alone for a week and Skimp takes that as a yes.

  4. An OTP is never a payment

OTPs and autopay reminders are never recorded as spending, whatever you have taught the app.

Everything else in the app

Free, offline, and they do what their names say.
